An email starts with "Hello", thank you:-)
Under no circumstances do you post your request for subscription withdrawal to the list to which you subscribed.
An SMS is an SMS, an email is an email.
To be clear: an email is written with real words, not in telegraphic style.
When you click on the button "Reply" or even "Reply to writer"
...do not forget that, by default, you will reply to the whole list. So check carefully that it is what you want to do, and do not just reply to the sender of the message. With the "Reply" button, it is easy to answer the whole list accidentally, rather than just the writer of the email. That can sometimes be awkward, depending on the contents of your message...
Be concise
*Reread your message* before posting it to the list*. Do not put the whole original message in your reply (especially if it is just to answer "yes," or "I agree"...), but only the part to which you are replying; otherwise, you are likely to see your message rejected by the server.
More specifically, reply paragraph by paragraph
The server is programmed to refuse messages of more than 20 consecutive cited lines; the citation is when you click on the "Reply" button of your email software, and it automatically shows the original message, which you answer by adding a vertical bar to the left of the original lines, or a little character such as ">".
When you quote someone, delete everything that is not directly connected with your answer
Do not let the standard email software automatically quote the whole message you are replying to. Nobody likes to read a long quoted message for the third or fourth time, followed by a one-line reply.
Treat one subject per message and choose a relevant title
...for the "Subject" or "Object" field of the header that appears in the list of messages of thr recipient
Do not put accents in the title (object)
...and there only,
nor any other special characters, because that makes the archives hard to read. In the title (and there only), please use international alphabet letters only, and not characters as :
À â à é è ê ë É È Ë Ê ç î ï Î Ï ô ö Ô Ö ù û Û Ù
Do not post messages to a list list that have commercial intent
Coarse or impolite messages will not be disseminated
and can lead to the cancellation of your subscription to the list.
If you disagree with someone from the list resolve the problem by private email
...not via the list. If you are shocked or angered by a message, wait a few days before answering. "Inappropriate" correspondence on the list will do nothing but harm the list. Do not forget that email can heighten an impression of aggressiveness in certain texts.
Use capital letters only to underline an important point or for a title or paragraph heading.
*Asterisks* on each side of a word can be used to reinforce it. Putting a word in capital letters when it is not in a title is the equivalent of SHOUTING!
Limit the length of lines (76 characters maximum)
and avoid control characters. If you wish to include a link to a web page you recommend, avoid addresses that are too long. If that is the case, use an address converter like the one proposed for free by
www.minilien.com
Humour is out of place in certain circumstances
Many people on the Internet use smileys (still called "emoticons"). A smiley is a succession of characters at the end of a sentence, representing a facial expression if you turn the head to one side; there are multitudes of them, but the most typical example is :) or :-).
For safety reasons (transmission of data-processing viruses, server overload, etc...), the Médicalistes server is parametered *not to authorise* dissemination of messages with an attachment
Instead, use the "
Documents section" of this site to share your images, videos, and various documents with your fellow members. To have your message distributed to all the subscribers to the Prader-Willi list, repost it without the attached document. If you do not know how to do this, consult the user’s guide or the Help file integrated into your email program, and as a general rule, check that your signature does not take the form of a file attachment. As a last resort, if you receive an error message each time you try to post an email to your list,
contact its list-owner.
If you leave on holiday
Do not forget to parameter your subscription to the "No mail" mode (rather than stop your subscription). This way, when you get back, your inbox will not be filled up and you only have to go back into “Email” mode. If you do forget to do it, you are likely to find yourself with hundreds of messages upon your return. It is indispensable if, during your absence, your computer sends an automated email reply; example:
"I received your message, but am currently on holiday, please contact so-and-so or contact me at a later date."
The server detects this type of reply and you risk having your subscription automatically stopped.
Hoaxes have been a phenomenon on the Internet
...for a few years; they are most often false alarms for viruses. You have certainly already received some. It is forbidden to post an email alert to the list before having:
verified that the alert is justified. Here are some useful addresses:
contacted your list-owner if you have any doubt.
