You have received one or several e-mails on the mailing list you are subscribed to mentioning "*****SPAM*****" in the title ?
What does it mean ?
Medicalistes has several anti-SPAM systems, one of which (SpamAssassin) analyses all electronic messages going through the server and, according to statistical criteria and its configuration, decides whether a message is SPAM or not.
If it decides that the message is not SPAM, the mail is transmitted without modification (a single line is added to the headers:
If it thinks the message might be SPAM but is not 100% sure, the mail is transmitted without modification, but a line is added to the headers:
If it thinks the message is certainly SPAM, the mail is tagged:
- The title is modified and *****SPAM***** is added at the beginning of the title
- An explanation is added to the body e-mail, e.g.:
Does it mean the message received through the list is really SPAM ?
No. Even though it is possible, it’s very unlikely, because only subscribers can post messages on the vast majority of lists hosted by Medicalistes.
Thus, if a mail is tagged as SPAM
Either it’s a subscriber who has posted a real SPAM (which has yet to be seen)
Or it’s a mistake of the anti-SPAM system, which is statistically impossible to avoid because of the large number of mails received.
Are there any risks for me in opening these messages ?
No. You do not need to worry. SPAM means undesired advertisements and not viruses. It is probably only a mistake of the anti-SPAM system anyway.
For your information: Médicalistes has of course of an anti-virus program, updated every 3 hours. It filters all messages going through the server. Even though the transmission of a virus is possible, it is extremely unlikely.
