Aniridia mailing list for Teenagers

Description

-  An electronic mailing list: what is it ?

  • An electronic mailing list is like a "break-time" class where you can send an e-mail message to everyone at the same time, or to just one person in a private e-mail.

The idea of Aniridia-Teens is very simple: after you have subscribed to the mailing list, you can write an e-mail to "the list", and all the children and young adults who subscribe to Aniridia-Teens will receive your message. In the same way, you can also receive lots of responses after your first message.

Subscribing is very simple, it’s free, and it doesn’t commit you to anything; you can unsubscribe from the list at any time.

-  Who can subscribe to Aniridia-Teens ?

The Aniridia-Teens list is open to all children, teenagers, and young adults (up to the age of 25) who are affected by aniridia (and associated symptoms) in France, as well as in Europe and in the rest of the world. All young people with aniridia can sign up and chat with each other, without their parents’ involvement !

ATTENTION: This mailing list is not intended for the parents of children with aniridia or for adults suffering from this disease. There is actually a special list dedicated to them: Aniridia mailing list, accessible following this link.

-  What do you talk about ?

Everything, or almost! Among numerous possible subjects, you can talk about the advancement of some treatment, a hospitalization, what side effects you are experiencing, your daily life, your hopes, your ups and downs, "inside information" you might have which helps improve some specific problem or other, school, free-time, family, friends, etc. You can chat with children or teens all over Europe. In order to communicate with the largest number of people, it is preferable to write in English (using an electronic translator, if necessary, but be careful of mis-translations !)

Strength through unity

The main thing to keep in mind on Aniridia-Teens is Netiquette. Also, read carefully the article entitled Writing to the List.

-  Importante Note

All messages posted on the list must be for informational purpose only and in no way can they be considered to be medical advice. Any information relating to a treatment or a diagnosis must be received "subject to medical approval"; only your physician is equipped to confirm the validity of such information.

So, would you like to subscribe ?

How to subscribe to a list

-  You only need to send a blank e-mail to the following address: aniridia-teens-subscribe@eurordis.m...

For security purposes, you will then receive an e-mail which will ask you to confirm your request to subscribe. All you have to do then is click "Reply" on the e-mail, without changing the "subject" and without writing anything in the message area.

A new "welcome" message will be sent to you confirming your subscription.

This message will include certain items of information which are needed to identify you and which will, therefore, be essential in order to unsubscribe, to get access to the archives, etc. These items are: your subscription e-mail address and your corresponding password.

Post a message

-  To write to the Aniridia-Teens list, so that all its subscribers receive your message, post your email at the following address:

aniridia-teens@eurordis.medicalistes.org

Do not forget that it is fundamental that you:

  • Introduce yourself as soon as you subscribe: send a message to the list to announce your arrival to the other subscribers, the connection you have with aniridia, your first name (or your pseudonym), how you learned about the list and what led you to subscribe to it.
  • Read and respect the Netiquette. Read it at least once before posting a message to the list !

-  Write directly from this site

If you are already a list subscriber, you can write an email to the list directly from this site. Click here to identify yourself (the "Login" button on the top left of the page that will open), then click on "Post" in the menu on the left, to write your message.

How to have access to the archives

-  It is unnecessary for you to save received messages. You have complete access to the archives with a search function using key words. However, they are, of course, protected, and only the list subscribers can consult them. You can perform a "simple" search for the current month, or click on "advanced search" and use several search criteria.

-  A minor point of clarification is necessary if using computers is still a bit of a mystery for you: when you perform an "advanced search," you should select the months of files in which you wish to make your search. In clicking on one month (for example, "2001-12", for December 2001), you will perform a search for this month only. To select several months, or even a longer period, click once on the month at the beginning of the period desired, move up to the month at the end of the period, while holding down the “Shift" key of your keyboard ("majuscule" in French, different from "Caps Lock"), and click on this month.

  • Caution: To avoid getting a message saying "Internal server error", avoid performing a search over too long a period or set of archives, and limit your search to 3 months if the list is *very* active, 6 months if it is not.

-  To access the list archives, you must first go to the page of this list, then click on the link "Archives" in the menu on the left. Caution, when you click on this link, a new window will open.... with an error message in red (except if you have already been identified). THIS IS NORMAL.

-  Don’t forget that each time you want to reach the Sympa interface, you will need to identify yourself by clicking on the “Login" button on the top left of the screen, and enter your email address and your personal password. If you have lost the latter, you can easily get it back.

How to unsubscribe

-  First of all, a minor clarification: If you want to end your subscription because you’re receiving too many messages on one or more lists to which you have subscribed, or because you receive these messages on your professional email address, know that you can remain subscribed and consult the messages posted to the list on the web, without receiving them by email, which does not prevent you from being able to post messages to the list.

To do this, all you have to do is modify your subscription mode: click on the link "Modify my subscription mode" on the menu on the left (you need to log in before).

To learn about the different subscription modes available, take a look here.

-  There are several ways to stop your subscription:

    • Leave the subject line empty
    • In the body of the message, put: signoff aniridia-teens
    • As a last resort, if you really run into trouble, contact the list-owner of your list.

IN NO CASE SHOULD YOU POST YOUR REMOVAL REQUEST
TO THE LIST TO WHICH YOU SUBSCRIBE.
